Fall Decor-Start with an Area Rug

Area rug to bring the room together, add comfort, character and style
Every year, just before it snows and gets unbearably windy and cold, we get a slice of a season called Fall.

For some of us, Fall is the best season. The temperature is mild and two of the best holidays happen—three if you count the kids going back to school ;) We get to dress up and act silly for Halloween, but my favourite October holiday is Thanksgiving with its’ delicious foods and getting together with people who you haven’t seen in a while, or even met, like new babies!

Lots of us will have guests over, so why not impress them with your season-appropriate décor? Bring those warm, earthy colours inside and mix new colours and trends with your family tradition.

An easy way to change the look and feel of a room instantly is with an area rug. They can warm up a cold floor and give the young ones a place to roll around and play on. Your rug is a great place to start when decorating because once you have the base, you can just add to the theme of the room from there.

Say you go with a rug full of rich oranges and browns; next you just need to pick out decorations that complement it to pull the whole room together.

But what if you can’t find the area rug you’re imagining? No problem. At Flooring Superstores, we can custom make you a broadloom rug out of any of the carpet we carry! Super-shaggy rug? Caress carpet by Shaw? Whatever you want, we’ll build you an area rug of the exact shape and size you specify.

A custom rug will fit your room perfectly…. But what IS the perfect size for your room? There are actually a lot of rules and opinions on the subject. Here are some of the things you should consider before you place an order:

  • Which room is the rug for?
  • What is the furniture in the room like?
  • How much do you want to spend?
  • What is the traffic volume like?

There are also some guidelines you may want to follow—or ignore! After all, it’s your home with your tastes and your style, so do what you think looks good!

  1. Furniture legs: Do you want them all on, all off, or partly on?
  2. Flooring underneath: How much of your laminate, tile, hardwood, etc. do you want to show?
  3. Furniture placement: How would you like your furniture to be laid out? Here’s a picture to give you ideas.
  4. As an additional resource, a hip, young interior designer, Emily Henderson, wrote a lovely blog (with a video!) about choosing the right size rug.

If you have any questions, or if you would like a quote on a custom area rug, give us a call or contact us here at the Saskatoon Flooring Superstores.
